RESERVE FIREFIGHTER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be at least 18 years of age. 2. Must have a valid California drivers license 3. Must obtain Ambulance drivers license within 3 months of hire 4. Must be a high school graduate or G.E.D 5. Must have CPR and EMT or EMT-P 6. Provide proof of legal right to work in the U.S. 7. Pass Borrego Springs FPD physical ability test or show valid CPAT JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the general supervision of the Captain, a Reserve Firefighter is required to perform all fire and EMS related duties within their scope. Reserves are asked to work at least four 24 hour shifts each month, with the option to group those days together (two 24 hour shifts.) Each month Reserves can sign up for any days during the month, as long as there are no more than 2 Reserves per day. Reserve Firefighters with a valid EMT will be assigned to drive the ALS ambulance staffed with one Paramedic, and provide on scene support. Reserves with a valid EMT-P will also drive the ambulance, and provide Paramedic care. If more than one Reserve is scheduled, then one will be assigned to the ALS engine, alongside a Captain, Engineer and Paramedic. All fire training is done on the job, no experience required. COMPENSATION: 1. Reserve Firefighters will be reimbursed $50 per 24 hour shift. 2. Reserve Firefighter Paramedics will be reimbursed $65 per 24 hour shift. 3. $350 uniform reimbursement after 48 shifts worked. An Additional $250 reimbursement for each additional 48 shifts worked. BORREGO SPRINGS: Borrego Springs is an unincorporated area located approximately 90 miles northeast of San Diego. It is surrounded by the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park where many enjoy hiking, camping, golfing and off-road sports. Borrego Springs is a rural town with a permanent population of 3,000 and a seasonal population of 10,000 as well as one million plus visitors annually. The District was created in 1961 as a Volunteer Department currently it is a full time ALS Fire District. The District has 12 paid personnel, augmented by 21 Reserves. There is one station covering 305.5 square miles, with occasional response to neighboring districts. Borrego Springs offers entry-level Firefighters a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful community with challenging conditions. The “Think outside the box” mentality is utilized with each call, as the closest back-up is at least 20 minutes away.
